Guys I mentioned before it helps to include the following when quoting a fuel economy figure:

Avg Litres/100Kms (were all doing this fine)
Avg Speed (this is missing and validates your claims for highway/city driving).

For me, I average 13.2/100km this week for work. Been stuck in traffic more than ever, all 60 zones and 50 zones and my Average Speed was 24km/hr.

Hence why my consumption is rooted.

On a different occassion, driving to Victor Harbour, 240+ Km round trip, averaged 10.2/100km with average speed of 45 km/hr.

    Major difference.

The speed makes all the difference. Also, I reset the trip computer at the pump when I fill the car up, that way, its an independant result for each tank of fuel. Sure I can fill up, drive home for 3 km's at a constant 60km/hr, feather the throttle and not stop/start and average 7.1/100, but its not refelctive of my overall driving and that tank of fuel.

If we could add these to our answers I think you'd have a better basis for comparasson.
